Who Can Obtain Short Term Residence Permit?

Short term residence permit is a residence permit issued for foreigners who want to stay in Turkey longer than the visa or visa exemption period.


Who Can Obtain Short Term Residence Permit?

The below mentioned foreigners can obtain short term residence permit:

  1. Foreigners who will arrive to conduct scientific research.

  2. Foreigner who have real estate/immovable property in Turkey

  3. Foreigner who will establish business or commercial connections

  4. Foreigners who will participate in on-the-job training programmes

  5. Foreigners who will attend educational or similar programmes as part of student exchange programmes or agreements to which Turkey is a party.

  6. Foreigners who wish to stay on tourism purposes

  7. Foreigners who intend to receive medical treatment, provided that they do not have a disease that can pose a public health threat

  8. Foreigners who are required to stay in Turkey pursuant to a request or a decision of judicial or administrative authority

  9. Foreigners who transfer form a family residence permit

  10. Foreigners who will attend a Turkish language course

  11. Foreigners who will attend an education programme, research, internship or a course by way of a public agency.


What is the Duration of Short Term Residence Permit?

Short term residence permits are issued for a maximum of two years each time. On the other hand, residence permits can be issued for five-year periods each for investors and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus citizens within the scope to be determined by the President. The short term residence permit, which is given to foreigners who want to attend Turkish learning courses, is given twice at most.


Short term residence permit can be granted for once, for a maximum of 1 year, for those who complete their higher education in Turkey and apply within six months of their graduation date.


What are the Required Documents?

The documents required for long-term residence permit application are as follows.


  1. Application Form

  2. Passport copy (The pages that show the identity information and the page with the photo, as well as the entry-exit and visa information.) (The original must be with you on the day of application)

  3. 4 biometric photos (Taken within the last 6 months, the background must be white and biometric.)

  4. Statement that you have sufficient and regular financial means during your stay (It is declared in the Application Form. The Administration may request supporting documents from the applicant.)

  5. Document/receipt showing that the residence card fee has been paid

  6. Valid health insurance

  7. Document showing that the applicant is registered to AKS

  8. Document indicating the Place of Residence
