Spouses, minors and dependent children of Turkish citizens, foreigners with Blue Cards, refugees, foreigners who have a residence permit and have stayed in Turkey for at least 1 year with this permit can obtain a family residence permit in Turkey.
Persons who will apply for a family residence permit in Turkey are the family members of the person holding the title of sponsor. The family members of the sponsors are the foreign spouse, minor or dependent children of himself/herself or his/her spouse.
If the sponsor has more than one spouse, family residence permit is given to only one spouse, however, the children of the other spouse can also obtain a family residence permit.
In case of divorce, a short-term residence permit can be granted to a foreigner who is married to a Turkish citizen, provided that he has stayed in Turkey for at least three years with a family residence permit. However, if it is proven by the relevant court decision that the foreign spouse is a victim of domestic violence, the condition of being in Turkey with a three-year family residence permit is not required.
Who is a Sponsor for Family Residence Permit?
Sponsors are Turkish citizens, foreigners with Blue Cards, refugees, foreigners who have a residence permit and have stayed in Turkey for at least 1 year with this permit. Certain economic and social conditions are sought for the supporting person.
For How Long Can the Family Residence Permit be Issued?
Family residence permit cannot be issued for more than 3 years. The duration of the family residence permit cannot exceed the duration of the sponsor's residence permit in any way.
What are the Required Documents?
The general documents for student residence permit are:
Application Form
Passport copy (The pages that show the identity information and the page with the photo, as well as the entry-exit and visa information.) (The original must be with you on the day of application)
4 biometric photos (Taken within the last 6 months, the background must be white and biometric.)
Document/receipt showing that the residence card fee and other payments has been paid
Copy of marriage certificate or a document proving the marriage. (The original must be with you on the day of application)
In case the applicant is a child additional documents such as birth certificate, custody documents, letter of parental consent and other documents may be demanded.
From the sponsor the belowmentioned documents are requested: (the sponsor must be present during application)
If the sponsor is a Turkish citizen; original and copy of the identification card,
If foreigner; passport copy and original.
Written, signed and ratified statement that you have sufficient and regular financial means during your stay
Health insurance covering all the family members (The insurance must cover the desired residence permit period) (Other specifications may apply)
Criminal record (can be obtained from Turkish agencies if the sponsor is in Turkey for more than 5 years, if not this can be obtained from the foreigners countrys authorities)
Document showing that the sponsor is registered to AKS
Document showing place of residence.
