Other Types of Residence Permits

There are two types of extraordinary residence permits which are humanitarian residence permit and residence permit for victims of human trafficking. These permits have different requirements and necessities.


Humanitarian Residence Permit


A humanitarian residence permit is a type of permit that allows some foreigners in need of protection to legally reside in Turkey. The conditions in regular residence permits of foreigners who will obtain a humanitarian residence permit are not sought. It can even be given directly by the competent authorities.


Who Can Obtain Humanitarian Residence Permit?


In the belowmentioned setting the foreigners can obtain humanitarian residence permit;


  1. Where the best interest of child is of concern

  2. Throughout the removal actions of the applicant to the first country of asylum or a safe third country

  3. In cases where foreigners should be allowed to enter into and stay in Turkey due to emergency or in view of the protection of the national interests as well as reasons of public order and security, in the absence of the possibility to obtain one of the other types of residence permits due to their situation that precludes granting a residence permit

  4. In extraordinary circumstances


Foreigners who obtain a humanitarian residence permit must register in the address registration system within twenty working days at the latest from the date of issuance of the permit.


Residence Permit for Victims of Human Trafficking


It is given by the governorates for a period of 30 days to the foreigners who are or strongly suspected to be victims of human trafficking, in order to get rid of the effects of their experiences and to decide whether or not to cooperate with the authorities.


The residence permit, which is given to allow time for recovery and reflection, can be extended for a maximum of six months due to the victim's safety, health or special situation. However, these periods cannot exceed three years in total.
